City seeking public input as it updates parks and recreation plan

The City of Fort St. John is asking residents to help shape the future of its parks, trails and recreational spaces by taking part in a new public survey.

The survey is part of the city’s update to its Parks and Recreation Plan, a long-term document that will help guide decisions on parks, playgrounds, trails, sports fields, recreation facilities and other outdoor amenities.

In an update posted to its website, the city said it is looking to better understand what recreation priorities matter most to residents as the plan is revised.

Officials said previous public engagement, including feedback gathered during the Aquatics Facility Project, has already provided valuable insight. The latest survey is intended to help confirm those priorities and identify where residents would like to see improvements.

According to the city’s Let’s Talk Fort St. John engagement page, the updated plan will reflect community feedback and help determine what is working well, what could be improved and where future investments should be focused.

The current Parks and Recreation Plan was adopted in 2023. Since then, the city has completed or begun several projects, including upgrades to Kin Park, Surerus Park and the Pomeroy Sport Centre.

Additional community engagement sessions are planned for July and September. A draft of the updated plan is expected to be prepared between August and October, with the final version anticipated later in 2026.

Residents have until July 27 to complete the online survey.
