Fort St. John Huskies add new players ahead of upcoming season

The Fort St. John Huskies are adding new pieces to their lineup as the team prepares for the upcoming hockey season.

The Strike Group North West Junior Hockey League runners-up announced the signings of defencemen Norman Lacquette and Jonas Letourneau on Thursday through the team’s social media channels.

The Huskies say both players bring experience and skill to the blue line after successful seasons with their previous teams.

Lacquette, a 19-year-old from Mallard, Man., joins Fort St. John after spending last season with the Moosomin Steelhawks of the Prairie Junior Hockey League.

During the 2025-26 season, Lacquette played 29 games, recording six goals and eight assists for 14 points, along with 79 penalty minutes.

Outside of hockey, Lacquette also competes in fastball and represented Manitoba at the 2025 Canada Summer Games in St. John’s, N.L.

The Huskies described Lacquette as a dedicated competitor with a strong work ethic and said he is ready to bring his experience and leadership to the team.

Letourneau, 17, also brings a connection to Fort St. John, as his father was raised in the city.

The defenceman has spent the past two seasons playing in the Alberta Elite Hockey League with teams based in Edmonton. Last season, he appeared in 27 games with the KC Colts U-18 AA team, scoring four goals and adding seven assists for 11 points.

The Huskies praised Letourneau’s skating ability and hockey sense, describing him as a smooth skater with a strong understanding of the game.

The new additions come as Fort St. John prepares for its upcoming training camp, which begins Aug. 21 at the Pomeroy Sport Centre.
