Food Truck Fridays return to Fort St. John with two summer events

Food Truck Fridays are returning to Fort St. John this summer, with the city inviting residents to enjoy local food, games and time outdoors at Festival Plaza.

The City of Fort St. John has scheduled this year’s events for July 31 and Aug. 28 from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Festival Plaza on 100 Street.

Kathryn Rutherford, a recreation programmer with the city, said the event is returning after a break of several years. The first Food Truck Fridays were held in 2021, and the city hopes to bring the community gathering back.

“We haven’t done it since then, so we’re trying to get it going again, seeing how it goes this summer,” Rutherford said.

The family-friendly event will feature food trucks, lawn games and board games, giving residents an opportunity to spend time together in a relaxed setting.

“It provides families, friends and coworkers something to go do together on a Friday,” Rutherford said.

The city is still finalizing the lineup of vendors, but Rutherford said organizers expect three or four food trucks to take part.

This year’s event will also feature a different mix of vendors than the inaugural event.

“In 2021, we were coming out of COVID, so we didn’t have many food trucks around then,” Rutherford said.

“So we’re having some different food trucks [than] we had previously.”

Food Truck Fridays are free to attend. The city is encouraging residents to stop by Festival Plaza, sample a variety of local food and enjoy an evening of community activities.
