Fort St. John RCMP warn of increase in ATV thefts

Fort St. John RCMP are reminding ATV owners to take extra precautions after seeing an increase in all-terrain vehicle thefts over the past several weeks.

Police said properly securing ATVs can help reduce the chances of them being targeted by thieves.

RCMP are encouraging owners to keep their vehicles stored in a secure location, such as a locked garage or shed, when they are not in use. They are also reminding riders to remove keys after operating their ATVs and to keep a record of the vehicle identification number, or VIN.

Having the VIN information available can help officers return stolen vehicles to their rightful owners if they are recovered.

Fort St. John RCMP are asking anyone who notices suspicious activity involving ATVs or other recreational vehicles to report it to police.
