RCMP rolls out new look for front-line police vehicles

The RCMP is changing the look of its front-line vehicles for the first time in more than 30 years.

The redesigned vehicles will feature white doors against a black base, along with graphics that include more highly visible and reflective elements.

The RCMP said the changes are intended to make its vehicles easier to recognize in a range of conditions, whether they are operating during the day or at night, in rural or urban areas, or in different weather conditions across the country.

The new black-and-white colour scheme also takes inspiration from older RCMP vehicle designs, linking the updated fleet to the force’s history.

Provinces, territories and municipalities will have the option of adding local identifiers to the vehicles based on regional needs.

The new designs are expected to start appearing on Canadian roads later this summer.

The rollout will happen gradually as older vehicles reach the end of their service life and are replaced.

Both the existing and redesigned vehicles will operate alongside each other during the transition.
