The Fort St. John Huskies will have to wait a little longer for their first win of the 2026-27 regular season.
The Huskies opened the season with a pair of losses on the road against the La Crete Lumber Barons, falling 6-5 Saturday before dropping a 4-1 decision Sunday.
Saturday’s opener at Raymond Knelsen Arena was a back-and-forth affair, but Fort St. John was unable to overcome an early hole.
La Crete scored three times in the opening period before adding two more goals in the third to hold off the Huskies.
Fort St. John finished with the edge in shots on goal and found the back of the net twice on six power-play opportunities.
The Barons, however, also made the most of their chances with the man advantage, scoring twice on the power play to secure the 6-5 victory.
The Huskies returned to the ice Sunday looking to even the series but instead watched La Crete complete the sweep.
The Barons opened the scoring midway through the first period before Fort St. John responded with the lone goal of the second to tie the game.
The deadlock did not last long.
La Crete regained the lead less than three minutes later and added two insurance goals in the third period to close out the 4-1 win.
Special teams played a significant role throughout the weekend.
After converting twice on the power play Saturday, Fort St. John was held off the scoresheet on seven power-play opportunities Sunday.
The two losses leave the Huskies with an 0-2 record to begin the regular season and a 10-6 scoring deficit after their opening weekend.
Fort St. John will now look to regroup and pick up its first victory of the season in its next outing.
