Dawson Creek downtown upgrades nearing completion

Several projects aimed at improving Dawson Creek’s downtown are now complete or nearing the finish line.

The work includes replacing streetlights throughout the downtown area and upgrading a pedestrian area at the intersection of 10th Street and Alaska Avenue.

The projects are part of the City of Dawson Creek’s 2026 Capital Program, which includes infrastructure improvements aimed at keeping public spaces safe, accessible and functional.

The downtown streetlight project involves installing new fixtures to improve lighting while making future maintenance easier.

At 10th Street and Alaska Avenue, the existing brick surface is being replaced with concrete as part of the pedestrian area improvements.

The downtown work is among several projects included in this year’s capital program.

Other completed projects include improvements at Memorial Arena and the planting of more than 150 trees throughout Dawson Creek’s parks and green spaces.

Meanwhile, Dawson Creek City Hall remains temporarily closed following concerns about asbestos in the building.

The city has not provided an exact date for when services will return to City Hall, but its website currently estimates a return in early 2027.

In the meantime, city services have been temporarily relocated to several locations throughout Dawson Creek.
