Tumbler Ridge RCMP arrest man after reported knife incident involving youth

A man is in custody following a reported incident involving a knife and youth in Tumbler Ridge over the weekend.

Tumbler Ridge RCMP say they responded late Saturday, Oct. 17, after receiving a report that a man was flashing a knife at youth in the 100-block of Kinuseo Avenue.

Police apprehended the man under the Mental Health Act and took him to hospital.

He was released from hospital on the morning of Monday and returned to Tumbler Ridge, where he was subsequently arrested. He will remain in custody until he can appear in court.

“Tumbler Ridge RCMP want to assure the public that they are taking this situation very seriously and that there is currently no further risk to the public. We appreciate all the information we have received from residents regarding these incidents and want to commend the youth involved in calling police so quickly,” said RCMP Northern B.C. spokesperson Cpl. Jennifer Cooper.

The investigation remains ongoing.
