Move over, city hall — there’s a new bear in town!
Kinny the Bear has been elected Dawson Creek’s first-ever Critter Mayor, winning a fun election designed to get young residents involved in the democratic process.
The furry candidate came out on top with 86 votes during the Kids Voting Station, held alongside the 2026 Dawson Creek General Local Election.
Alaska the Fox followed with 77 votes, while Mile the Moose finished third with 46. In total, 209 ballots were cast.
The first-time initiative gave kids a chance to experience the excitement of election day by casting their own ballots for their favourite critter.
While the critter election was all in good fun, it also offered young residents an opportunity to take part in a local voting experience and learn about democracy.
Congratulations to Kinny the Bear on the win and to all the young voters who helped make Dawson Creek’s first Critter Mayor Election a success!
