Fort St John residents get physical

City of Fort St John is encouraging residents to connect to nature and their community with the recreation department’s outdoor summer walking challenge.

The city-run challenge returns this July and will run until August 31. Participants can explore any location in the region, so long as they are outside and the winners will receive fitness prizes.

The city will crown two winners. The first will be the person who covers the most distance and the second will be the person who spends the most time walking.

Residents who choose to participate must record their progress on the city’s tracking sheet. You can find an editable file is available under the community events section of their website, meanwhile, physical copies are also available in the visitor centre at the Pomeroy Sport Centre.

The honour-system based tracking sheet has daily slots for walkers to track their progress, in time or kilometers travelled.

According to the city, steps will not be allowed as a tracking system. Participants who use a step-tracking device must track the distance travelled, in kilometers, or the time spent walking to be eligible for the prizes.

The completed form must be returned to the Pomeroy Sport Centre’s visitor centre or emailed to the city’s recreation department by September 5.
