City of Fort St John announces road closures ahead of Canada Day parade

Much of downtown Fort St John will be closed on Tuesday, July 1, for Canada Day festivities in the city.

The city’s recreation team announced several road closures and provided a map of the parade path in a Facebook post. They also encouraged residents to, “come early with your lawn chair and save your spot.”

The first closure of the day will be at 7 a.m., when 100 Street from 93 Avenue to 96 Avenue will be closed until 9.

At 9 a.m., 96 Avenue to the south side of 108 Avenue will be closed for the entirety of the parade, which begins at 11. When it starts, the remaining sections of 100 Street and 98 Street, and the avenues surrounding them, will close.

The city recommends taking 93 Avenue or the Alaska Highway for travelling east and west – and for drivers heading north and south, the city suggests 102 Street or 96 Street.

Parking will be available in and around the Pomeroy Sport Centre.
