Northern Health announced the construction of a new addition to the Peace Villa long-term care home in Fort St John.
According to Northern Health, the project is expected to bring 84 new single bedroom units and 30 spaces to the adult day program for seniors. The expanded facility is also expected to host social and recreational activities for residents.
Construction of the expansion should begin in Spring of 2027 with a tentative move-in period for residents in late 2030.
Currently, Peace Villa is the only long-term care home in Fort St John. According to their website, it hosts 123 residential beds and one respite bed for caregivers.
The new addition will be the facility’s third house.
“This newly approved long-term care home is a generational investment – expanding access to quality care for seniors, strengthening health services in the region, and creating meaningful jobs in the community,” said the Minister of Infrastructure, Bowinn Ma.
The expansion is part of the province’s overall expenditure on long-term care. Their goal is to secure 600 new long-term care beds across northern B.C.
“Ensuring seniors have access to high quality healthcare services, including long-term care, is fundamental to our public healthcare system. This expansion will enable more seniors to access compassionate and dignified care in the community they love, surrounded by the support they need,” said Josie Osborne, the Minister of Health.
The new addition is funded by the Peace River Regional Hospital and the Ministry of Infrastructure, via Northern Health.
