A truck driver passing through Fort Nelson received three tickets from B.C. Highway Patrol for operating an unsafe tractor trailer with too heavy of a load.
B.C. Highway Patrol said they stopped a truck driver on July 7 after a transport truck with an overloaded trailer bypassed the weigh station on Highway 97, near Fort Nelson – after being pulled over, the truck returned to be weighed and was found to be too heavy.
The truck’s blue shipping container, which was full of furniture, was also not properly attached to trailer.Â
“Two trailer tires were bald and deformed, and the exhaust stacks on the truck were not heat-shielded to prevent a person from getting burned,” described Cpl. Michael McLaughlin of the province’s highway patrol unit. Â
In response to safety issues, the truck driver received three tickets totalling $391 – the first was for driving the truck with too heavy of a load, the second was for not properly securing that load, and the third was for taking the unsafe vehicle onto the highway. Â
According to the RCMP, the truck was removed from the road to be inspected, and the driver will pay for its tow, inspection, and any necessary repairs. Â
Despite B.C.’s rural highways seeing less traffic, officers reminded all drivers of the importance of driving safely – especially for vehicles that weigh several times more than a standard sedan.Â
