B.C. Conservative Party leadership review vote coming to Fort St John in August

Members of the Conservative Party of B.C. in the Peace can take part in the party’s leadership review vote next month in the Fort St John Curling Club.

The B.C. Conservatives sent an email to their party members in the Peace River North riding informing them of the leadership review vote scheduled for the afternoon of August 9 from 4-8.

Jordan Kealy, the independent MLA for Peace River North, shared the email on X, accompanied by some critical thoughts on the Conservative Party Leader John Rustad’s leadership.

The leadership review, according to the party, is being held in accordance with their constitution – not because some current and previous Conservatives, like Kealy, are questioning the leader of the opposition’s alignment with the party’s goals.

In his post, Kealy said the current Conservative leader is alienating rural B.C. by shifting party values towards the centre-left.

“His leadership has already caused defections, leading to the rise of splinter parties like One B.C.,” Kealy continued – referencing the rightward party created by two other previously independent MLAs.

The vote will only be available to members of the Conservative Party who are in good standing, meaning they must have registered as a Conservative at least 21 days before the review, which would have been on July 19.
