Pump the brakes, the city of Fort St John announced new road closures

Drivers in Fort St John may have to re-route after the city’s announcement of two road closures as crews continue road maintenance, with a partial closure is already in effect.

The city advised residents of the road closures online, with the first coming into effect July 30, and the second the following day.

Northern Lights Drive, heading eastward from 100 Street, will be partially closed through the long weekend – from July 30 to August 4. A lane is closed for crack sealing, as the city works to revamp the roads before winter’s wrath returns.

The next day, the intersection at 96 Street and 101 Avenue will be completely closed until the first of August for paving.

City crews maintain the roads inside city boundaries and any issues drivers see while in city limits can be reported on Fort St John’s website or app, under the “report a problem” form.

Several other roadway projects began this summer – including the city’s full closure and reconstruction of 101 Avenue, between 96 Street and 98 Street, which began earlier this month and is anticipated to continue into “late summer,” according to the city’s temporary road closures.

People driving on the partially closed Northern Lights Drive are being asked to yield to oncoming traffic, and residents across the city were reminded to watch for crew members while the city finishes its summer road work.
