Parade around road closures coming for Dawson Creek

As parade-goers prep for the annual Rotary Club Fall Fair Parade, the city of Dawson Creek is advising drivers of road closures in advance of the August 8 celebration.

The parade, themed after “makers of history,” is scheduled to start at 10 on Friday morning, but road closures will begin at seven, and should wrap up at 1 in the afternoon.

Closures are located in the areas surrounding  McKellar Park, Tremblay Park, and Kin Park – McKellar Avenue, at the tip of the northern Kin Park, will be restricted. The access roads inside of Kin Park can only be used by authorized drivers during the parade.

Kin Park will also home one of the two available public restrooms, with the other being located at City Furniture on 13 Street.

The parade marshal will begin by guiding floats down 102 Avenue and 13 Street, where celebrators will feed into 10 Street, which will be closed between 102 and 107 Avenue. The route will end in Tremblay Park, where the loop is only open to local traffic.

13 Street will be closed in two locations, first between 107 and 102 Avenue, the second closure is going south from 108 Avenue to 115 Avenue. 102 Avenue will also be unavailable between 13 Street and 10 Street.

The roads surrounding Tremblay Park, 113 Avenue, 114 Avenue, and 115 Avenue, will be closed for the duration of the parade.

To help guide drivers through these closures, the city of Dawson Creek said detour signs will be posted and reminded them to abide by all signage. Downtown drivers are advised to plan ahead, and leave early to allot for extra travel time.

Registration to be in the parade will be open until 5 p.m. on August 7 – and float-havers are asked to meet off of McKellar Avenue in the staging area at 8 a.m. the day of the parade, ribbons will be awarded to registered entrants an hour later.
