Two suspected drug dealers in Fort St John were arrested after an altercation with police that ended in their car and hotel room being searched by officers.
Police said they arrested the two men on Aug. 15 after they tried to escape police in their hotel’s parking lot. The RCMP said the men damaged a squad car in the process.
The accused were staying at the Stonebridge Hotel, and when officers searched their car and hotel room, they found illicit items.
Drugs, cash, and two loaded handguns were reported to be in the vehicle. The RCMP said one of the handguns was “converted to fire fully automatic,” meaning the gun can shoot bullets continuously so long as the gun has ammo and the shooter’s finger is on the trigger — it is illegal for civilians to own these weapons in Canada.
Later, when police searched the hotel room, Mounties spotted and seized “a large amount of drugs,” more cash, and a third gun.
Officers said the men were not from B.C. and they suspect they intended on selling, or trafficking, the drugs within Fort St John.
The accused 20-year-old and 21-year-old men were released from police custody as their charges have not yet been approved.
