Mounties said ‘there is no ongoing risk to the public’ after downtown stabbing

Mounties in Fort St John are reassuring residents that there is no risk to public safety after a man was stabbed downtown last week.

According to the RCMP, they received a report of a stabbing in a parking lot near 99 Avenue and 100 Street on the afternoon of Aug. 28. Within ten minutes of this call, officers said they arrested a 28-year-old woman, Kayla Breeze Trudeau, who allegedly stabbed the man in the chest.

Police said she was charged with three crimes- assault with a weapon, assault causing bodily harm, and possession of a weapon for dangerous purposes. Her bail hearing is pending, and currently, she is in their custody.

Cst. Christiaan Dreyer, the local detachment’s media relations officer, said the woman and man knew each other, and it was not a random act of violence. He told residents “there is no ongoing risk to the public.”

The man who was stabbed was taken to the hospital and the RCMP said his injuries are nonlethal.
