‘Hear our cries and help us find Karen’ pleas family after disappearance of Fort Nelson women

Karen Tessier went missing last summer and her family is begging anyone with information to help investigators find her.

Tessier was last seen while out with friends in Fort Nelson on July 9, 2024, according to the RCMP. Officers did not find her but did come across her car at a “remote gravel pit.” Elizabeth Burke, Tessier’s mother, said the vehicle was burned when police found it.

“Karen was a mother, a daughter, a sister, a grandma, an aunt, and a wife, and a good friend to so many,” said Burke as she described her missing 57-year-old daughter.

Mounties described Tessier as an Indigenous female who is 5 foot 5 and 177 lbs., with brown hair and brown eyes. They said their North District Major Crime Unit is working alongside the Northern Rockies RCMP in this ongoing investigation.

Burke said the last time she heard from her daughter was on the day of her disappearance, “she said, ‘I’m good, ma. You need to be strong, ma,’” Tessier’s mother explained.

The silence on her daughter’s whereabouts since then has been deafening.

“If you know anything, any piece of information, no matter how small, don’t be afraid to speak out,” she said. “Ralph, myself, and many friends and relatives who love Karen need closure. We know the weight of keeping what happened. Silence is heavy and those who are holding the truth need to let it out.”

Investigators have a dedicated tip line for their search into Tessier’s disappearance, her mother urged anyone with information to reach out to the police.

“From a mother, from a family that is struggling with their grief beyond what words can express, please hear our cries and help us find Karen. Please. I’m begging you, if you know anything, please. Talk to someone. Let it out and just let us bring Karen back to us so we can bury her,” said Burke.

People with information can submit it to the RCMP’s tip line for Tessier by calling 250-561-8888.
