A man who was wanted on outstanding warrants is now facing additional charges after a manhunt ending with his arrest in Taylor.
Several law enforcement teams including the police dogs, emergency response teams, and members of the Fort St John RCMP gathered on the morning of Sept. 11 at the home of Johnathon Michael Peters’, the formerly wanted man, with a search warrant.
After going through his home, which is generally only allowed when officers have a warrant, they had reason to believe the wanted man was in Taylor and headed in his direction.
Mounties said Peters was initially wanted on outstanding warrants for mischief over $5,000, uttering threats, refusal to provide a sample, obstructing a peace officer, and breach of release order.
Once in Taylor, officers saw a side-by-side they believed Peters was driving. When they tried to pull over the side-by-side for a traffic stop, it “fled into the Peace Island Park area and was monitored by a tracking team, drones and Air Services.”
Crews continued watching the vehicle for around two hours until it stopped running on an island of the Pine River. When it stopped running, the RCMP arrested Peters.
Police said Peters now has additional charges to face after being held for court. He was charged for failing to stop while being pursued by the police, obstructing a police officer, and operating the side-by-side unsafely.
