B.C. Transit seeks feedback to set rider’s guides on the right track

Surveys on how rider’s guides are used by bus passengers are available for transit users in Fort St John to fill out while waiting for their stop until Oct. 15.

Questions posed in B.C. Transit’s rider’s guide survey includes how regularly the respondent rides the bus. The survey also asks how often they use the guide and which section they find themselves checking the most.

Transit users are invited to complete the online survey or fill out a paper version. These physical copies can be picked up from any bus in Fort St John. Passengers can also briefly outline their responses in an email or answer recorded prompts by calling the survey line at 250-995-3838.

The provincial transit agency said comments will be “a part of a review of printed rider’s guide.” Feedback collected will be used to inform how the agency communicated with its users going forward.

Responses will be reviewed until Oct. 15 and, according to B.C. Transit, will “enhance how transit information is communicated and ensure the rider’s guide continues to meet the needs of riders that use it.”

Rider’s guides are brochures with bus schedules, fare rates, transit etiquette, and scheduled service interruptions for civic holidays such as Canada Day and Christmas. The guide also lists places in the city where people can pick up an Umo Card or bus pass.

Over 3,800 people boarded B.C. Transit buses and paid using Umo in the city this July, the organization reported to the city council. As students return to school, and the routes taking them to and from local schools resume, ridership is expected to increase.
