Dawson Creek hockey player thrives in NCAA

A female hockey player from Dawson Creek is off to a hot start with the Bemidji State Beavers in Minnesota.

Hailey Armstrong tied a program record on Saturday, scoring all four goals in a 4-1 victory over Robert Morris on Saturday.

For her efforts, she was named the Western Collegiate Hockey Association’s first star of the evening. Through four games she has five goals so far this season.

Armstrong is in her third season of NCAA hockey with the Beavers. Last season she tallied 10 goals and eight assists in 37 games.

Prior to heading down south, Armstrong played two years with the Northern Capitals U18 Female AAA program. Her best season was in 2021-22 where she recorded 47 points in 28 games.

The 20-year-old then went to the Rink Academy in Kelowna where she collected 38 points in 30 games.

Armstrong and the Beavers will take on the Ohio State Buckeyes this weekend, which features standout defenceman and Fort St. John product Brooke Disher.
