Canada Post deliveries in Fort St. John and Dawson Creek remain suspended as postal workers continue rotating strikes, despite mail service resuming in most other parts of the country.
Federally operated mail service in the two Peace region cities is still paused, the union representing Canada Post employees said.
“Canada Post continues to operate across Canada. We are accepting and delivering mail and parcels in all locations, except where there are rotating strikes,” the Canadian Union of Postal Workers explained.
In addition to the two cities in northeastern B.C., postal workers in the town of St Anthony, N.L., will also keep striking.
Mail service in these cities will resume after the walkouts are finished. For now, Canada Post is not delivering or picking up mail or parcels in those areas.
Residents in Fort St John and Dawson Creek can pick up physical copies of city mail, such as utility bills, at their respective city halls. Emailed billing is also available in both cities.
The national postal worker strike began on Sept. 25 in response to the federal government’s plan to end door-to-door deliveries and close select locations. Last week, Oct. 11, mail service resumed in some areas, but rotating strikes began in others.
Initially, postal workers in Timmins, Ont., were included in Saturday’s walkout, but the union said mail service will resume on Oct. 14. Canada Post did not say when another update is expected.
