‘Human remains’ found in burnt out car near Dawson Creek

Police are investigating a suspected homicide after human remains were found in a burnt-out sedan near Dawson Creek.

Mounties said they responded to a report of a burned vehicle on Monday, Oct. 13, and located a 2005 Mazda 6 near 251 Road in the Kiskatinaw River area. Officers searching the vehicle and the surrounding area found human remains inside.

“All indications suggest that this is a homicide,” said Supt. Sanjaya Wijayakoon of the B.C. RCMP.

Investigators are asking anyone who was around the silver car, at 251 Road near the Kiskatinaw River area, on Monday or the days prior to contact police.

The investigation is ongoing and is being led by the E Division Serious Crime Unit, a provincial team that supports local detachments with major criminal investigations, according to the B.C. Public Service.

Anyone with footage or information about the burnt out Mazda is asked to call the B.C. RCMP at 1-877-987-8477.

No other information is available as the police investigation is ongoing.
