Person injured in second shooting within 24 hours in Fort St John

A person was shot early Wednesday in downtown Fort St. John, according to city Mounties, who said it was their third call involving gunfire this week.

Police said the suspect or suspects who allegedly fired several shots remain at large as “the RCMP work tirelessly to locate and arrest those responsible.”

An ambulance first responded to the 3 a.m. call regarding the person who was shot at the 9500 block of 96 Avenue – near where the avenue intersects with 96 Street. This area is closed to allow police to investigate and the city of Fort St John advised residents to use other routes.

Mounties said witnesses reported hearing “numerous gunshots in the area.” Despite several shots being fired, officers said they found one person who was hit, but “a second person appeared to be unharmed.”

Police are asking anyone in the area with doorbell, surveillance or dashcam footage to contact the detachment. Officers said suspects have been arrested in connection with the two previous shootings.

The investigation is ongoing, and no suspect description has been released.
