Dawson Creek firefighter hit by passing vehicle while responding to call

A firefighter was struck by a passing vehicle Wednesday morning while responding to a call on the Alaska Highway.

“Just before 8 a.m. (Wednesday) morning, Dawson Creek Fire Rescue crews responded to a single motor vehicle incident,” the department said. “While on scene one of our members was struck by a passing motor vehicle.”

The firefighter was injured on the southbound lanes of Highway 97 near Groundbirch, the city of Dawson Creek Fire Rescue said. The individual was transported to Chetwynd Hospital by ambulance, then flown to Prince George by aircraft.

“Our thoughts are with our injured member, their family, and our entire fire department family during this difficult time,” the fire protection service said.

The department did not release the name of the firefighter.
