Transit users in Fort St John will see modified service over the holiday season as the transit company expects demand to decrease for certain routes.
These changes to the schedule will align with the local school district’s Holiday break – when students will be home from Dec. 22 to Jan. 3, 2026. Service will be impacted at paths with stops at schools, including routes four and five, said B.C. Transit.
“Over the winter break, routes that serve K-12 students will be discontinued for the season, set to return to service on January 4,” the provincial transit provider explained in a service announcement.
Impacted routes have an “s” beside them in the local rider’s guide to signify they only run when school is in session for the students at Peace River North School District 60. The usual trips on these routes will be “shifted to route two southside and route three Central Prospect Park,” according to B.C. Transit.
Starting on Sunday, the city of Fort St John’s recreation facilities will adjust to their winter break scheduled until Jan. 3. Activities are scheduled at the Kids Arena Fieldhouse, Pomeroy Sport Centre, and North Peace Leisure Pool for the two weeks off.
Santa Claus is also set to stop by on Sunday at the Pomeroy Sport Centre to join in a group skate with the missus. The weekly free skate period opens at 1:30-3:30 p.m., with an hour-long closure before they reopen for two hours at 4:30. After the skate session, Santa will meet with fans at the skating oval.
