Local band is ready to rock and roll for Canada Day in Fort St John

Fort St John is revving up to celebrate Canada Day on Tuesday, July 1, and the city-run celebration will include a performance from Rose Prairie Romance at Centennial Park.

The northern B.C.-based rock band has performed for the holiday celebration in previous years and said they are always happy to play for an enthusiastic crowd.

“(It’s exciting) when the crowd is into it, it’s always fun when you see people dancing around and swaying – just enjoying the music as much as they can,” said Conor Okrainec, the band’s bassist.

As Canada Day swiftly approaches, the band said they already determined the set list for their performance.

“We’re going to do mostly stuff off the new album, a couple from the last one, and then probably some covers by some Canadian artists,” Ryan Sebastiano, the band’s guitarist and singer, hinted.

The band has released two albums and several singles since its conception in 2015. Their most recent project, Local Smoke, was released in April of this year.

“Ryan needed a bass player and a drummer to play a gig. He gave me a call, and he gave our drummer, Mark, a call – and we started as a three-piece. Slowly, we kind of built-up to what we are now,” Okrainec explained.

Alongside their Canada Day performance, the band is planning to set up a merch table at the park. Sebastiano said they will have t-shirts, hoodies, vinyl records and beer cozies for fans to purchase.

Sebastiano also emphasized, for fans who enjoy their Canada Day set, the band has other local performances – including one later in the week in Hudson’s Hope.
