Who let the dogs out: The Huskies will spend the first four weeks of their season on the road

Coming off of a hot continuation to their championship win streak, the Fort St John Huskies are preparing to spend most of their upcoming season dominating on the road.

The North West Junior Hockey League, or NWJHL, released the schedule for the upcoming 2025-2026 season, which is played from September to January. The Huskies’ season will begin and end in Peace River, Alta, when they face off against the North Peace Navigators, in Baytex Energy Arena.

Their first battle of the season, against their division rival, will be on September 12. The Huskies’ season opener will begin at 8 p.m. on that Friday – they will stay in Peace River the following day for their season’s second game.

Fort St John’s junior hockey team will return to the city for their first home game four weeks later, on October 8, where they face off against the Navigators once again.

During their four-week stretch on the road, the Huskies will travel through Alberta – including a stop in Sexsmith, Alta, where the NWJHL’s first All Star Game took place during the league’s inaugural season in 1994.

The Huskies are slotted to host various teams throughout this season, including the Beaverlodge Blades, the Fairview Flyers, and La Crete Lumber Barons.

Fans who are interested in becoming season ticket holders can purchase them from August 9-31 during the team’s early bird sale – existing season ticket holders can keep last season’s seats if they renew their support by September 9.

An in-person early bird special will be available at Ernie’s Sports Experts, in Totem Mall, during the Huskies’ garage sale from 10:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. on August 16 or at the team’s hockey camp from August 22-24.
