Residents in a Fort St John neighbourhood will not have water service as of tomorrow morning while the city repairs a water leak in the area.
The city put out a notice for residents that water will be turned off on August 14 at 9 a.m., and will remain off while crews mend the leak in the area along 92 Avenue and 82 Street. An updated end time will be announced by the city at 3 p.m. on the day repairs begin, but for now, it is unclear when water service will return to the largely residential area.
These water troubles are not unique to any specific of the city. Earlier in the week, on August 11, Fort St John’s city council voted in favour of awarding a contract for work on another water-related issue, this time it was the lift station at Garrison Landing, where it is not pumping at the expected flow.
Work on Garrison Landing’s force main upgrade has not began yet, but staff said it is urgently needed because of the risk posed to private properties in the area.
Residents who do not have water can access the city’s bulk water dispensers – the location on West Bypass Road has two bays for residential users, and the station at Charlie Lake is only for home-use.
Residential dispenser users must visit City Hall in-person and pay $15 for an access pin, water credits can only be purchased during business hours – and users will require specific equipment to funnel the water as they collect it at the bay.
