UPDATE: Highway 2 is open again in both directions.

A vehicle crash has temporarily blocked a section of Highway 2 south of Pouce Coupe, prompting a detour for local travelers.

According to DriveBC, the collision happened on Wednesday afternoon, forcing the closure of a stretch of the highway between 198 Road and 200 Road. The affected area is located roughly 11 kilometres south of Pouce Coupe.

Drivers heading through the area will need to take an alternate route. A detour is currently active and available via the Old Edmonton Highway.

Commuters should expect the closure to last for some time. DriveBC indicates that its next official update on the situation is not scheduled until Thursday, July 9, at 9 p.m.

For the latest road conditions and real-time updates on this closure, travelers are encouraged to check the DriveBC website before heading out.

We will update the story when more information becomes available.
