BC Hydro schedules temporary power outage for Tumbler Ridge

Residents in Tumbler Ridge can expect a temporary power interruption later this week as BC Hydro completes work to upgrade its transmission system.

The District of Tumbler Ridge is reminding the community that a planned, community-wide outage is scheduled for Friday, July 17, from 8 a.m. to approximately 11 a.m.

According to the district, BC Hydro will use the outage to install a new fused disconnect as part of ongoing improvements to the area’s transmission infrastructure.

BC Hydro has begun notifying affected customers through their preferred communication method, including phone, email or mail, depending on the contact information associated with their account.

In a notice to customers, the utility said it regrets any inconvenience the planned outage may cause but noted the temporary shutdown is necessary to protect both the public and work crews while the upgrades are completed safely.

Residents who have not received a notification or who would like to update how they receive outage alerts are encouraged to contact BC Hydro at 1-800-224-9376.

Customers can also monitor current and planned outages through BC Hydro’s online outage map.
