RCMP investigating targeted drive-by shooting in Fort St. John

Fort St. John RCMP are investigating a drive-by shooting that damaged several properties early Thursday morning, the latest in a recent series of firearm-related incidents in the city.

Police were called to the 9800 block of 108 Avenue at about 1:37 a.m. on Thursday after reports of gunfire.

Officers found bullet holes in a travel trailer, two neighbouring homes and a vehicle. RCMP said no occupants or bystanders were injured.

Frontline officers secured the area and canvassed the neighbourhood for witnesses, surveillance footage and other evidence.

Police said they have no description of a suspect or suspect vehicle.

The Fort St. John RCMP Serious Crimes Unit has joined the investigation, and the scene is being held while investigators await approval of a search warrant. Once authorized, members of the RCMP Forensic Identification Services unit will examine the scene for additional evidence that could help identify those responsible.

“This is believed to be a targeted incident in which thankfully, nobody was injured. The Fort St John RCMP is actively investigating the matter and seeking anyone who may have witnessed the incident or has surveillance or dash-camera footage of it. In light of the recent spike in firearm related offences in the City, Fort St John RCMP frontline members, the Street Enforcement Team (SET), and SCU, are focusing resources to target this unsettling activity,” said Constable Christiaan Dreyer, Media Relations Officer with the Fort St. John RCMP.

Investigators are asking anyone who witnessed the incident or has surveillance or dash-camera footage from the area around the time of the shooting to contact the Fort St. John RCMP.

Anyone wishing to remain anonymous can provide information through Crime Stoppers or submit a tip online through Northern BC Crime Stoppers.
