Voters in Tumbler Ridge who may have difficulty getting into a polling place will have another option during this year’s municipal election.
The District of Tumbler Ridge is piloting a curbside voting service for people who face barriers because of a disability, mobility limitations or a health condition.
The service will be available during advance voting on Oct. 7 and 14 at the district’s Town Hall on Illes Way.
Voters using the service can park in the lot behind the building and remain in their vehicle while completing the voting process.
Those who want to use curbside voting are asked to contact the chief election officer at 250-242-1466 either before arriving or once they are at the voting location.
Voters can also speak with an election greeter when they arrive.
An election officer will come to the vehicle to complete the registration process and provide the voter with their ballot.
Once the ballot is marked privately, it will be placed inside a secrecy envelope before an election official deposits it into the ballot box.
The district said voters using the service will not need to get out of their vehicles, provide proof of their condition or answer questions about their disability or health.
“If curbside voting would help you to vote, please use the service; we are here to welcome you,” the district said.
The district said information about whether the curbside service will be available on general voting day, Oct. 17, will be released closer to the election.
Advance voting is began on Wednesday and will resume on Oct. 14, while general voting day is Oct. 17.
More information about voting in Tumbler Ridge is available through the district’s election information for voters.
