Demolition of former Hudson’s Hope community hall set to begin Friday

Demolition of the former community hall in Hudson’s Hope is expected to begin Friday as the district moves ahead with plans to clear the site.

The work is expected to take about two weeks.

The District of Hudson’s Hope is asking residents to stay away from the work area while crews are on site.

Heavy equipment, demolition activity and increased truck traffic are expected throughout the project, creating potential safety hazards for people who enter the area.

Before demolition begins, the district said hazardous materials identified in the building were removed by a qualified hazardous materials abatement contractor.

That work included the removal of asbestos-containing materials, lead-containing materials and mercury-containing equipment.

The district said the abatement was completed earlier this month in accordance with applicable requirements.

Crews will also use dust-control measures during demolition to help limit airborne dust and maintain safety around the site.

Residents with questions, concerns or observations about the demolition can contact Director of Public Works Desirée LeBlanc at 250-783-1455 or desiree@hudsonshope.ca.

The district is asking residents for their patience and co-operation while the work is underway.
