Fort St. John Oktoberfest raises a stein for local youth

Fort St. John residents can expect an evening of steins, friendly competition and the Chicken Dance when the Rotary Club of Fort St. John Sunrise brings back its annual Oktoberfest celebration.

The event is set for Sept. 19 at the Fort St. John Curling Club, running from 6 p.m. to midnight, with proceeds going toward 4U Youth.

The community organization provides a safe drop-in space and mentorship for young people in Fort St. John.

“Oktoberfest is an opportunity for our community to come together, have a great evening and help support an organization doing important work for young people in Fort St. John,” said event organizer Chris Plant.

“4U Youth is creating a place where young people know they are welcome and supported, and we are pleased to make their work part of this year’s event.”

The night will feature a lineup of Bavarian-inspired activities, including axe throwing, cornhole, Hammerschlagen and a stein-holding contest. Guests can also compete in a costume contest and dance along to music from DJ Timber LeClerc.

Regional craft breweries will also be featured, with beer from Post & Row Brewing Co., Mighty Peace Brewing Co. and Trench Brewing & Distilling.

Early bird tickets are $50 until Sept. 12, before increasing to $60. Admission includes food, a drink ticket, an official Oktoberfest stein and entry into door prize raffles throughout the evening.

Tickets are available online through Zeffy, while information about in-person ticket locations is available on the Rotary Club of Fort St. John Sunrise Facebook page.

Organizers are also offering a safe ride home service until 1 a.m., giving attendees an option to get home safely after the festivities.
