Tumbler Ridge will not move forward with its planned Halloween fireworks display this year following significant feedback from residents.
The District of Tumbler Ridge and Tumbler Ridge Fire Rescue recently asked the community to weigh in on whether fireworks should be held on Halloween and whether advance notice of the date and time would help address concerns about the event.
The District said the poll was intended to better understand how comfortable residents were with the proposed display, particularly after recent events in the community.
While many residents supported keeping the traditional fireworks, a significant number said they would not be comfortable with the display going ahead this year.
After reviewing the feedback, the District decided to cancel the fireworks for 2026.
The decision does not affect the regularly scheduled Halloween event at the Northgate parking lot, which will go ahead as planned.
Residents and families are being encouraged to attend the event and take part in the Halloween festivities.
The District said the decision was not made lightly and does not mean community fireworks displays will be discontinued in the future.
Officials say the strong response to the poll highlights the importance of giving residents an opportunity to provide input on community events that may affect people differently.
The District is thanking everyone who participated and says it looks forward to welcoming the community to the Halloween celebration at Northgate.
