Update: Hudson’s Hope ER closed extended into next week

Update:

Residents in Hudson’s Hope will have to wait a few more days for emergency department services to return to the local health centre.

Northern Health’s Emergency Department Status page now lists Monday, Oct. 5 at 8:30 a.m. as the expected reopening time for the emergency department.

The ER has been unavailable since Sept. 25, with the closure extended several times since it began.

The department was initially expected to reopen Sept. 28 before the reopening date was pushed to Oct. 1 and then Oct. 2.

Northern Health has previously said the service interruption is the result of staffing challenges.

The Hudson’s Hope Health Centre continues to provide its regular services during the emergency department closure.

Anyone experiencing a medical emergency is advised to call 911 for assistance.

BC Emergency Health Services can arrange transportation to the nearest available hospital if emergency care is required while the local ER remains closed.

Residents are encouraged to check Northern Health’s Emergency Department Status page for the latest information, as reopening times can change.

Residents in Hudson’s Hope will have to wait another day for emergency department services to return to the local health centre.

Northern Health’s Emergency Department Status page said the ER is now expected to reopen at 8:30 a.m. Friday, Oct. 2.

The latest extension comes after the department was initially closed Sept. 25. The closure was previously extended to Oct. 1 before being pushed back again.

Northern Health has attributed the ongoing service interruption to staffing challenges.

“The current service interruption in Hudson’s Hope is the result of staffing challenges we have outlined previously,” Northern Health said in a written statement.

“The health centre’s emergency care services are expected to resume on Friday, Oct. 2.”

The Hudson’s Hope Health Centre remains open during its regular operating hours, from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday, excluding weekends and statutory holidays.

Anyone who requires emergency medical care while the local emergency department is closed is being advised to call 911.

BC Emergency Health Services can then arrange transportation to the nearest available hospital.
