Update: this article has been updated to include the latest information from Fort St. John RCMP
RCMP are investigating a safety concern involving threat-related behaviour at North Peace Secondary School.
School officials said the RCMP recently brought the concern to their attention and have since launched an investigation.
An increased police presence may also be visible at the school while the investigation continues.
The school district says the safety and well-being of students and staff remains its top priority and that it is working closely with police as the matter is addressed.
Officials have not released details about the nature of the reported behaviour or whether anyone has been arrested or charged.
The district said it is unable to provide further information at this time because the investigation remains ongoing and privacy considerations limit what can be shared.
School officials are also encouraging families to rely on information provided directly by the school and district and to avoid speculation or sharing unverified information.
The district said it takes all reports of potential safety concerns seriously and will continue working with law enforcement to maintain a safe learning environment.
In an update released Monday, Fort St. John RCMP said investigators determined the two parties involved in the reported threats knew each other and that police had spoken with those involved.
Police remained at the school throughout the day Monday as the investigation continued. Parents, caregivers and students are encouraged to report any threats to police.
Inspector Jaime Moffat, officer in charge of the Fort St. John RCMP, said: “A thorough investigation has been conducted, and we continue to work collaboratively with the school and the school district to help alleviate concerns among students and families following the reported threats.”
Moffat added that police continue to treat the matter with serious concern.
