Planned power outages to begin in Dawson Creek this morning

Areas of Dawson Creek will be without power in the coming days as BC Hydro has scheduled work to be completed in and around the city.

These staggered outages will begin today, Nov. 18 and continue until Friday, Nov. 21, according to BC Hydro who will be working in the affected areas. The first of the outages will be from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. and will only impact 50 properties – all of which are around the city’s regional airport.

On Wednesday, Nov. 19, the outage will begin at 9:30 a.m. and end at 2 that afternoon. 21 properties on the outskirts of the city will be impacted for this period. The following day’s outage will impact the eastern rural area surrounding Dawson Creek for the same times.

The final outage, scheduled for Friday Nov. 20, will be for a pole replacement and seven customers are expected to be impacted. People who live in the human settlement of Sunset Prairie will be without power from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., BC Hydro said.

People who will be impacted by these outages should have been notified by the utility company. Those who have an online account should have received an automatic phone call or email. Postcards are also sent by BC Hydro to notify customers, but updates are not sent via postcard and will only be sent to those with My Hydro accounts.

Prior to the outage beginning, BC Hydro recommends unplugging large appliances, electric heaters, and sensitive electronics, such as computers and televisions. For the first hour after power returns, residents are asked to only plug in the essentials as the system stabilizes.
