Another week in the clear as Northern Health reported no new measles cases.
This marked the fourth consecutive week with no new cases reported in the north or B.C.
Since the beginning of this year, 16 measles cases have been reported across the province, with all but four in Northern Health. Compared with other B.C. health authorities, the north has reported by far the most cases, according to the B.C. Centre for Disease Control, about 82 per cent of the 459 cases tracked since 2025 originated in the Northern Health region.
Sources of measles in B.C. have largely come from within Canada.
“There is an ongoing multijurisdictional measles outbreak in Canada. The multijurisdictional outbreak began in New Brunswick in October 2024 with a case that was exposed to measles outside of Canada and has continued to spread in several jurisdictions. To date, the majority ((greater than) 95 per cent) of measles cases reported in Canada in 2025 and 2026 have been linked to this outbreak,” said the provincial disease centre.
“In B.C. 422 confirmed and probable cases … are currently thought to be linked to this outbreak.”
