School District 60 hires new superintendent

Following consultations across the Fort St. John community and district stakeholders, the board of School District 60 Peace River North said Assistant Superintendent Wade Hart has been hired as the new superintendent, effective July 1, 2026.

The appointment follows the retirement announcement of current superintendent Stephen Petrucci.

Hart, who has spent his career in Fort St. John-area schools, brings 29 years of experience in SD60. He taught math, science and physical education before moving into a vice-principal role at North Peace Secondary School in Fort St. John and later serving as principal at Bert Bowes Middle School.

More recently, he joined the district’s senior education team as director of instruction for six years before becoming assistant superintendent last year.

“The Board of Education is pleased to welcome Mr. Hart to his new role. Given his extensive background in school and district leadership, coupled with his dedicated stewardship of Human Resources, we are entirely confident in his ability to serve the evolving needs of our students and staff,” said board chair Helen Gilbert.
