Physician shortage forces week-long ER closure at Hudson’s Hope Health Centre

Residents of Hudson’s Hope will be without local emergency services for the next week as the emergency department at the Hudson’s Hope Health Centre undergoes a temporary closure.

According to Northern Health’s Emergency Department Status page, the ER is scheduled to resume operations at 8:30 a.m. on Monday, June 15.

“Hudson’s Hope Health Centre is a small health centre with limited base staffing, as well as limited backup/casual or locum staffing availability. The focus of the health centre is to provide primary care access to the community,”  Northern Health said in a written statement.

A health administrator told mypeaceregionnow.ca efforts are underway to recruit a second family physician for the community. The physician is expected to begin practising this summer, pending completion of the hiring process.

Northern Health is advising residents requiring emergency medical attention outside regular clinic hours to call 911. Patients will be connected with BC Emergency Health Services and transported to the nearest hospital able to provide care.

The health centre remains open weekdays from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. but is closed on weekends and statutory holidays.
