Single vehicle collision kills Edmonton woman and dog near Fort Nelson

A 52-year-old woman from Edmonton and her dog died after a single vehicle crash on the Alaska Highway south of Klua Lakes, roughly 102 kilometres south of Fort Nelson.

Northern Rockies RCMP say at 6:24 Thursday morning, they received an abandoned 9-1-1 call reporting a collision, with additional information from a phone crash detection report providing the area on Highway 97 North.

Upon arrival, police and other first responders discovered a Kenworth flat deck truck had overturned with the driver and dog ejected from the vehicle, and were pronounced dead at the scene.

Mounties add while causal factors have not yet been determined, evidence at the scene suggested that an overcorrection resulted in the vehicle overturning.

Anyone with any information or dashcam footage of the crash is asked to contact the Northern Rockies RCMP at 250-774-2700.
