Five people injured in Fort St. John crash involving dump truck

Five people were injured, some critically, after a dump truck collided with three vehicles at a busy Fort St. John intersection earlier this week.

Emergency crews were called to the crash at the intersection of 100th Street and Highway 97 at about 3:30 p.m. on Wednesday, June 24.

Fort St. John RCMP, BC Emergency Health Services, the Fort St. John Fire Department and the BC Conservation Officer Service all responded. Paramedics treated several injured people at the scene before transporting them to hospital.

The Alaska Highway remained closed for most of the day while the Fort St. John RCMP’s Integrated Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Service examined the crash site.

Police said the investigation determined a dump truck struck three vehicles in the intersection, leaving five occupants injured. Investigators say some of the injuries were critical.

“Currently multiple additional investigative steps are being conducted to determine the cause of the collision,” said  Constable Christiaan Dreyer, media relations officer with the Fort St. John RCMP.

The investigation remains ongoing.

Anyone who witnessed the collision or has dash camera footage is asked to contact the Fort St. John RCMP at 250-787-8100.
