The Peace River Regional District (PRRD) is giving potential candidates a chance to learn more about what it takes to run for local office ahead of the 2026 general local election.
The regional district is teaming up with the cities of Fort St. John and Dawson Creek to host two candidate information sessions later this month for residents interested in putting their names forward in the upcoming election.
The Fort St. John session is scheduled for July 28 from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at City Hall’s Council Chambers.
A second session will take place in Dawson Creek on July 29 from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the Kiwanis Performing Arts Centre.
The sessions are open to anyone considering a run for local government in the PRRD and will provide information about the election process, including candidate eligibility, nomination requirements, roles and responsibilities, local government policies and bylaws, time commitments and compensation.
Organizers say the sessions are intended to help prospective candidates better understand what’s involved before deciding whether to run.
Residents with questions about the Fort St. John session can contact Chief Election Officer Bonnie McCue or Deputy Chief Election Officer Christina Brace, visit the city’s website, or email legislativeservices@fortstjohn.ca.
For questions related to the PRRD, residents can reach Chief Election Officer Tyra Henderson or Deputy Chief Election Officer Michael McLean, visit the regional district’s website, or email elections@prrd.bc.ca.
