PRRD looks for scrutineers ahead of the 2026 general election

The Peace River Regional District issued a public notice Thursday seeking applications for scrutineers for six assent votes scheduled to take place alongside the Oct. 17 general local election.

Qualified electors in designated areas will be asked to decide whether the regional district should establish six proposed services.

The votes cover:

  • Area C Water Service
  • Area D Water Service
  • Area E Water Service
  • Golata Creek Community Space
  • Osborn Community Space
  • Jackfish Lake Community Space

The regional district said the notice is required under the Local Government Act.

Scrutineers can represent proponents or opponents during voting and observe proceedings related to an assent vote.

People interested in becoming a scrutineer can request an application by emailing elections@prrd.bc.ca, visiting the regional district office at 1981 Alaska Ave. in Dawson Creek or obtaining application information through the regional district’s website.

Applications will be accepted from 9 a.m. Sept. 1 to 4 p.m. Sept. 11.

Questions about eligibility or the application process can be directed to chief election officer Tyra Henderson or deputy chief election officer Michael McLean at 250-784-3200 or 1-800-670-7773.

The assent votes are part of local voting taking place across the Peace Region this fall.

Hudson’s Hope has also issued a notice seeking scrutineers for an assent vote asking electors whether the district should be authorized to borrow up to $10 million for a proposed multi-use gathering centre.

The 2026 general local election is scheduled for Oct. 17, with advance voting scheduled for Oct. 7 and Oct. 14.
