Fort St. John advance voting turnout nearly doubles from 2022

More than 2,100 people have cast ballots so far in Fort St. John’s 2026 General Local Election, with advance voting turnout nearly double what it was four years ago.

The City of Fort St. John reported that 2,158 ballots had been cast during advance voting, representing about 13 per cent of eligible voters.

That compares with 1,104 ballots cast during advance voting in the 2022 municipal election.

The city also reported a significant increase during the first advance voting opportunity on Oct. 7, when 824 ballots were cast, up from 415 in 2022.

Residents will have another opportunity to vote on general voting day Saturday, from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. at Royal Canadian Legion Branch 102 on 105 Avenue.

Voters will elect one mayor and six councillors to serve on city council.

The ballot will also include a referendum asking residents whether the city should be allowed to borrow up to $90 million to build a new aquatic facility.

More information about voting eligibility, locations and the aquatic facility referendum is available on the City of Fort St. John’s election website.
