Fort St. John residents can ride transit for free on B.C. election day

Fort St. John residents will be able to ride public transit for free on B.C. election day as part of a provincewide initiative by BC Transit and participating local governments.

The free service will be available Saturday, Oct. 24, when voters head to the polls for the 2026 provincial election.

BC Transit announced the initiative on Wednesday, noting that decisions to offer free transit are made by local government partners in participating communities.

Fort St. John is among dozens of communities across the province taking part in the initiative.

Free transit will also be available in communities including Prince George, Dawson Creek’s neighbouring region of the Central Fraser Valley, Kamloops, Nanaimo, Victoria and Williams Lake, among others.

The offer includes handyDART service in all applicable regions. Some communities have route-specific restrictions, so riders are encouraged to check local service details before travelling.

For trip planning, fares and schedules, visit the BC Transit website.
