Northern Lights College opens new access centre in Tumbler Ridge

Northern Lights College has officially opened a new access centre in Tumbler Ridge, giving local students a place to pursue post-secondary education close to home.

The centre, located at Tumbler Ridge Place, officially opened Oct. 14 following a move from the college’s previous location inside Tumbler Ridge Secondary School.

Following the events of Feb. 10, 2026, NLC began looking for a new space to continue serving students in the community.

The new access centre allows students to take the college’s online programs, join classes delivered by video conference from larger campuses, access Wi-Fi and laptops, and connect with college services and supports.

The opening ceremony included a blessing and prayer by Elder Dean Dokkie, remarks from NLC President and CEO Todd Bondaroff, Board Chair Jennifer Moore and Tumbler Ridge Coun. Chris Norbury, followed by a ribbon-cutting ceremony with community members and guests.

“NLC has been part of this community for decades,” said Bondaroff.

“Over that time, the way we deliver education has evolved, but our commitment to creating opportunities for people in Tumbler Ridge and across the Peace Region has remained. I’m excited about what this renewed presence can mean for the community. We’re building on a longstanding relationship and creating new possibilities for the future.”

Moore said the new centre represents more than a place for students to attend classes, highlighting the importance of making education accessible within local communities.

“A college campus is so much more than a place to take classes. It is a place where people come together, discover new opportunities, and build their futures without having to leave the community they call home. We believe that where you live should not limit where you can go,” said Moore.

“As a Board, we are incredibly proud to celebrate this new chapter for Northern Lights College in Tumbler Ridge. This campus is an investment in the people, potential, and future of this community.”

NLC also recognized Campus Clerk Lisa Morin for her work securing the new space, coordinating contractors and preparing the centre for students.
